I would like to share with you a shocking revelation that I believe God has revealed to me about Hamas' brutal attack on southern Israel.

Many people in Israel and around the world are wondering how such a surprise attack on Israel could have happened.

After all, Israel has the best secret service, and it has built one of the most secure border areas around Gaza at a cost of over one billion euros. Despite repeated reports of suspicious Hamas activity near the fence, Israel's enemies managed to enter the country seemingly effortlessly and carry out a gruesome massacre for hours without encountering any significant resistance from Israeli security forces.

"But I will provoke them to jealousy by those who are not a nation;
I will move them to anger by a foolish nation." (Deuteronomy 32:21)

Once the war is over—hopefully soon—many government and security officials may be looking for new jobs or even end up in prison. Yet there is always a deeper spiritual reason and explanation for such events, especially when it comes to Israel. In addition to the question of how such an attack was possible in the first place, an even more important question arises for me: Why did God allow this to happen? Let's try to get to the bottom of this.

Biblical Background

Before the children of Israel entered the Promised Land, God warned them that they might be tempted to forget God if they became complacent in their prosperity (Deut 8:11-20). As a consequence, they would serve new gods, and as a punishment they would be attacked by a people who are not really a people.

As we shall see, the Palestinians fit the description of such a "people who are not a people." Moreover, the secret Hamas tunnels, the rocket attacks, the terror of families in their safe rooms at home, and even the abduction of citizens—from babies to the elderly—on October 7 are accurately predicted in Deuteronomy 32.

To truly understand the profound connections between the events of October 7th and biblical prophecy, a deep connection with Israel and a comprehensive understanding of Israeli society are required.

I have lived in this wonderful country since I was 11 years old and have served in the IDF for many years. Together with my wife and our children, I have found my home in Tel Aviv. As a former soldier, as a resident of Tel Aviv and as a businessman, I have the opportunity to meet Israelis from all walks of life and learn about their philosophies and attitudes towards life.

Israel's Pride

Israel is known worldwide as a startup nation. With 11 Nobel laureates in the last 75 years alone, young Israel has made an impressive contribution to the world. Countless inventions used around the world come from the creative minds of the Jewish people in Israel. In addition, Israel has become an extremely attractive investment country and has the strongest army in the Middle East. With the development of the Iron Dome , Israel has gained the ability to intercept 95% of all enemy rocket attacks. Thanks to this groundbreaking technological achievement, Israel developed a strong sense of confidence in its internal security, leading to a national sense of pride. Israeli society now relies more on this man-made protection system than on the protection of the God of their forefathers.

Over the past few decades, the Israeli economy has flourished and the land has enjoyed a relative calm from terrorism. Israelis were able to enjoy their lives and success to the fullest.

But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; you grew fat, you grew thick, you are obese! Then he forsook God who made him, and scornfully esteemed the Rock of his salvation. (Deuteronomy 32:15, NKJ)

I firmly believe that in recent decades we have become so wealthy in Israeli society that we Israelis have become "obese" and have abandoned faith in our Rock.

In the following verses, God reveals the consequences that would follow if His people served other gods instead of Him and changed in this way.

The Nova Festival

They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods; With abominations they provoked Him to anger. They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they did not know, to new (Latin: "novi") gods, new arrivals that your fathers did not fear. Of the Rock who begot you, you are unmindful, and have forgotten the God who fathered you. (Deut 32:16-18)

The Nova festival in Israel coincided with an early attack that was originally planned for next year's Passover holiday. What could be the reason for this premature attack?

Was it the dancing of Israelis around "new gods"— in this case, around a Buddha idol at the festival—that so greatly sparked God's jealousy and anger?

3,000 people raved and danced—as their ancestors did around the golden calf (Exod 32)—only this time with electronic music in psychedelic trance or "psytrance" style around a statue of Buddha.

When I followed the massacre at the Nova Festival in the media in the first few days, the imposing Buddha idol, which sat proudly and uplifted in the middle of the dancing crowd, immediately caught my eye. The sight of it didn't let me rest.

The next day, during my prayer time, the Lord revealed to me in His Word the revelation of the "new gods" worshipped by God's people.

The presence of the Buddha idol at the Nova festival literally fulfilled Deuteronomy 32:17, which warns Israel not to worship new ("novi") gods. Though Buddha is an ancient religious figure, for the Jewish people it is one of those idols that have arisen only recently, that their fathers did not worship, that is, a new and modern idol.

A large, grassless lot, with colorful, billowing blankets and Hindu-inspired tents, provided space for dancing. Two DJ booths were each equipped with barricades. On wooden platforms stood rows of loudspeakers, arranged like pyramids.

Psytrance is fast dance music with a minimum tempo of 130-150 beats per minute. It's an accelerated version of what used to be called acid-house. Participants reveled at the event with colorful, immodest attire, septum* rings, and strong psychedelic drugs.

The Palestinians are not a People

Could these developments in modern Israeli society—especially the worship of false gods—have angered God to such an extent that he consequently hid his face from Israel? Such a scenario conforms to the pattern in Scripture (often seen in the Book of Judges): every time God's people served other gods, God allowed Israel's enemies—such as the Amalekites, Philistines, or Midianites—to attack them.

But I will provoke them to jealousy by those who are not a nation; I will move them to anger. (Deut 32:21)

According to Deuteronomy, God will provoke Israel's jealousy through those "who are not a nation." Who could this refer to? Only the Palestinians. They may present themselves as the Palestinian people, but in fact they are not a historical nation.

No history book tells the story of a Palestinian people—neither of a reigning king nor of a country of their own. Before the founding of the State of Israel, the Land of Israel was called "Palestine." This name, however, was chosen not because of a pre-existing Palestinian people, but because of Roman Emperor Hadrian's effort to dissociate the Jewish people from their homeland after his suppression of the Bar Kochba revolt in 135 A.D. To erase all memory of Israel, Hadrian renamed the Land of Israel "Palestine" after the name of their biblical archenemies, the Philistines ( Palestina in Latin).

Until 1964, the Jewish people in Israel identified as "Palestinians." This is evident, for example, by a program booklet of the Jewish "Palestine Orchestra" from 1936. There was also an Arab orchestra at that time, which consisted exclusively of Arab musicians.

Another example of this identification: Today's Jewish daily newspaper, the "Jerusalem Post," used to be called the "Palestine Post."

A people would never identify itself with the name of its enemies. In 1964, Yasser Arafat began to use the term "Palestinian people" to refer to the Arabs, and from that moment on, the Jews distanced themselves from this designation.

Hamas Tunnels Foreseen in the Bible?

For a fire is kindled in My anger and shall burn to the lowest hell; It shall consume the earth with her increase and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. I will heap disasters on them; I will spend My arrows on them. (Deut 32:22-23)

The wrath of God was kindled even in the "lowest hell" or deepest abysses of the tunnels of the Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip. This wrath also led to the firing of countless "arrows" (rockets) that "consumed the earth" and her produce, destroying much agriculture in southern Israel. It also "set on fire the foundations of the mountains" when Israeli foundations and towns were hit by the rockets and houses went up in blazing flames. Everything happened as written in the Word of God.

Prophesied Abduction of Children

Children abducted from Israel to Gaza

Outside the sword shall rob them of their children, and in the chambers of terror, the young man as well as the maiden, the infant and the old man. (Deut 32:25)

The Hamas terrorists brutally violated mothers and young girls. Entire families hid in their safe chambers and lingered there for hours in terror, hoping for rescue. Many ultimately met their gruesome death at the hands of the terrorists, who either shot them or threw grenades at them through the ventilation pipes and windows.

239 Israelis—babies, children, women, and even Holocaust survivors as old as 84—were brutally abducted to Gaza and "robbed," as written in Deuteronomy.

Light against Darkness

I would have said, "I will dash them in pieces, I will make the memory of them to cease from among men," Had I not feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should misunderstand, lest they should say, "Our hand is high; and it is not the LORD who has done all this." For they are a nation void of counsel, nor is there any understanding in them. Oh, that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end! (Deut 32:26-29)

Ultimately, this is an epic battle between good and evil, between light and darkness. The devil strives with all his might to destroy Israel in the hope of preventing the return of Jesus. For he knows that Jesus will not return until all Jews have returned to their homeland. According to Zechariah 12:10, Jesus will reveal Himself to His people only then, much like Joseph who revealed himself to his brothers only after they all stood before Him (Gen 45:1-15).

For this reason, although God may be angry with His chosen people, he will not allow such a thing to happen, so that his enemies who are deceived by the devil will not claim, "Our hand is high!" —giving the impression that the devil has won .

A Handful of Terrorists against an Entire People

How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their rock had sold them, and the LORD had given them up? (Deut 32:30)

A handful of terrorists chased 3,000 Israelis at the festival, while the rest of the terrorists chased away approximately ten thousand residents in the villages around the Gaza Strip.

Given Israel's powerful army, state-of-the-art technology, and superior intelligence, this would never have been possible unless God had allowed it and indeed given them up into the hands of their enemies, as foretold in the biblical text.

A Cycle from Sin to Salvation

So the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God and served the Baals and Asherahs. Therefore the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel, and He sold them into the hand of Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel served Cushan-Rishathaim eight years. When the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for the children of Israel, who delivered them: Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother. (Judges 3:7-9)

The Old Testament Book of Judges is full of amazing war stories about God's chosen people, the Israelites. When they entered the promised land that God had given them and began to occupy it, they had to fight difficult battles against their enemies.

Although the Israelites were God's chosen people, they constantly lived in a dangerous cycle of sin. They turned away from God, began to worship idols, were oppressed and attacked by their enemies, then cried out to God, whereupon He saved them.

A Happy End for Israel

Praise his people, O you nations; for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and render vengeance to his adversaries; He will provide atonement for his land and his people. (Deut 32:43)

Modern Israel is still God's chosen people, as in biblical times. Although they still tend to turn away from God, the God of Israel remains the same as in days of old: He always sends his salvation in the end.

Thus, the biblical prophecy foreshadowing Hamas' invasion of Israel ends with the hope of redemption. God will avenge the blood of His people and will bring reconciliation to the people and land of Israel.

For this reason, the Lord exhorts the nations to "praise his people" (RSV) or "rejoice… with his people" (NKJ). As the prophet Zechariah warns, "he who touches [Israel] touches the apple of [God's] eye" (Zech 2:8). God has chosen Israel as the instrument of His plan of salvation; therefore He warns all those who want to "touch Israel"—that is, oppose His plan of salvation—that they are courting disaster.

Many peoples and empires, such as the Amalekites, the Philistines, the Romans, or the Nazis, tried to touch the apple of God's eye and impede his plan of salvation; but they did not succeed and met their own end. Israel, on the other hand, returned to God and found salvation.

Anyone who can still remember how divided the people of Israel were before October 7, 2023—and how we were even on the brink of civil war—is amazed today by the unprecedented unity that has prevailed in Israeli society since the brutal attack of October 7th.

It is astonishing and at the same time encouraging to observe how many secular Israelis have turned back to God since the October 7th attack. Even many non-religious soldiers pray daily before going into battle against Hamas.

Just as God promised, on the one hand he will retaliate against the enemies of Israel for their deeds, but on the other hand he will bring reconciliation to his land and his people Israel. Already today a beginning of this reconciliation is visible in Israeli society, which gives us hope for the imminent return of our Lord Jesus.
